Late 2016, a new bicycle passage was constructed underneath the Nieuwevaartbrug bridge in Ghent. For this steel structure, Staco, as assigned by WP Steel, manufactured 215 m² of Artdeck gratings filled with grey granules.
The building process took over 2 years before the bicycle passage underneath the Nieuwevaartbrug bridge in Ghent could be delivered. Because of the unstable bottom of the watercourse, extra studies and concrete injections were required to realise this project. The structure has a length of 70 metres and takes the cyclists from Nieuwevaart, underneath the crossing on the Nieuwevaartbrug bridge, to Palinghuizen.
For the surface of the passage, the client opted for approximately 215 m² of patented Artdeck gratings filled with granulate. As assigned by WP Steel in Waarloos, 143 pressed gratings, mounted lengthways, version RR 50-3 with a mesh width of 33 x 33, were manufactured. Using welded-in strips, strips of granules in RAL 7038 were glued to provide a muffling function. All corners of the gratings were provided with welded-in plates, to facilitate mounting of the threaded gratings onto the bearing substructure.
The Artdeck gratings form a closed walking platform that will still allow water to pass through, while creating a safe feeling. And safety is one of the most important requirements, especially where a watercourse with many passages is concerned!
