The insurance company Achmea recently merged its two branches in Apeldoorn into a single location. The existing buildings were renovated and six new buildings in a campus structure were added. As a result, it became possible to integrate the landscape in the surrounding Veluwe area – gentle undulations with dunes, birches, juniper bushes, heathland and fir trees – seamlessly in the design.
The heart of the campus is the new meeting centre. This round building with challenging architecture and technology includes a restaurant, a café and meeting rooms. Once the campus has been completed, about 4000 people will be working here in the middle of these natural surroundings.
Hofman Constructies from Vroomshoop asked Verzinkerij Wolvega to hot-dip galvanise 280 tons of structural steel for the Achmea campus. Some of this steel was given a twin powder coating in black-grey. The outside of the round Meeting Centre consists of wall panels of expanded metal supplied by Métal Déployé. The mat grey aluminium powder coating gives the building a distinctive look.
