Little C

The fifteen buildings of Little C are made of sturdy brick and they have large windows, robust window frames and striking steel balconies. Expressive footbridges connect the various buildings.

A corner of New York in Rotterdam

Little C is being built at the head of the Coolhaven in Rotterdam, between Erasmus Medical Centre and Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences. This exclusive living and working area – with lofts and apartments, workshops, a parking garage, studios, hospitality and other facilities – recalls the atmosphere of Greenwich Village in New York. That feel is a good match with the surrounding areas of Rotterdam: the Lloydkwartier, Binnenweg area and the Veerhaven.

Each building has its own style and character but everything is coordinated. This mix of architectural styles and materials creates a village in the city.

The abundance of greenery, the collective roof gardens, the various squares and the new Coolhaven Park invite residents to establish contacts with one another in a relaxed atmosphere.

Robust type SP Staco gratings

Wolter Tijdink asked Staco to supply pressure-welded steel gratings and type SP stair treads which were hot-dip galvanised by Rotocoat for this wonderful project. Wolter Tijdink produced and installed all the fencing, balconies and stairs.

Pressure-welded SP gratings are made of a sturdy mesh of bearing bars and cross bars. The cross bars are pressed into the bearing bars and all the connections are welded at the same time. As a result, pressure-welded gratings are extremely stable.

The larger mesh size of the gratings makes them more transparent, maintaining the link to the outdoors.

The gratings are very stable and they have a robust industrial look that is perfect for Little C.
