Museumplein (museum square) in Kerkrade now consists of three institutions: Continium, Cube and Columbus. In this new building, the Staco pressed gratings type RR have been applied in the ceilings and the balustrades.
Continium is a discovery centre for science and technology. Cube focuses on design exhibitions and it is home to 'living labs' where visitors team up with students and designers to work on product design and innovation. Columbus has a semi-underground 'Earth Theatre' in the form of a 'planetarium inversum' with, in the top, Europe's first National Geographic 3D theatre. The heart of the Limburg Museum Square is the sunken square. From the entrance, the visitor walks down into a subterranean landscape that interconnects old and new. The red stairs and walls with their earthy look and the descent refer to the region's mining past.Staco supplied 700 m2 of type RR pressed gratings. Rotocoat hot-dip galvanised and powder coated the gratings in matte black RAL 8022. Staco supplied the gratings on an installation plan so they could be processed quickly. The black gratings give the ceiling of the entrance area a sleek appearance.
